Oreo the husky is one lucky dog.
The Portland Police Bureau Central Precinct tweeted on Friday, Feb. 24 that one of their officers had rescued the pup from under a dock on the Willamette River in Sellwood.
While it is not ideal for dogs to be out in cold temperatures, PPB credits Oreo’s thick fur as to why he remained unharmed by the weather.
They’re right, dogs like Oreo were specifically bred to withstand cold temperatures. Everything down to a layer of fat under their paw pads to keep their feet from freezing and a specialized circulatory mechanism called a countercurrent heat exchanger.
The officer who rescued Oreo drove him to be reunited with their grateful owners.
