Oregon has been experiencing record setting cold weather with Thursday, Feb. 23 clocking in as the second snowiest day on record.
And with snow, comes ice.
Ice can cause damage to gutters and roofs, but the Cornelius Fire Department urged people via a tweet to not use open flame to melt said ice or snow on combustible material.
This helpful reminder comes after the department was called out to a small roof that broke out while someone was attempting to melt the ice off their gutters with a torch to avoid the gutters getting damaged. In the tweet, the fire department said, “Please never use open flames to melt ice or snow from a building or anything combustible.”
For what it’s worth, using hot or warm water is a safe and recommended method for melting ice off roofs and gutters.
