The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is returning to Providence Park for the first time since 2019.
The Portland Timbers will host USL side Orange County SC at 7:30 p.m. PT on April 26 in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup, U.S. Soccer announced Friday. The matchup was originally announced Thursday as the U.S. Open Cup third round draw was revealed.
Orange County SC won the 2021 USL championship. The Timbers have never faced Orange County — a club founded in 2010 and based out of Irvine, California — in any competition.
The winner of the 2023 U.S. Open Cup, a 108-year-old competition, will receive $300,000 in prize money and a berth in the 2024 Concacaf Champions League tournament. Portland has been to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup four times (2013, 2014, 2018, 2019) and the semifinals twice (2013, 2019) but has never won the trophy.
Tickets for Portland vs. Orange County SC go on sale at 12 p.m. PT on April 12 at www.timbers.com/tickets. Those with Annual Memberships for the Timbers will receive tickets at no additional cost. There will be no broadcast or live stream for the match.
