In the June 12 article “NW Natural booklet for schoolkids becomes flashpoint in climate change debate,” climate activist Amanda Roth, who is a NW Natural customer, says she was upset that the booklet was distributed to her two children. Roth, the article says, “said it was disturbing to know that the money she uses to pay her gas bill is, in part, going to materials she sees as teaching her two children something antithetical to the lessons she tries to impart at home.” As a NW Natural customer, she is obviously teaching her children that natural gas is her preferred choice to heat her home and water and to cook her food. If she is as committed to climate change as she claims to be, why hasn’t she switched to an electric heat pump to heat her home and electricity to heat her water and to cook with? The best way to teach children is to lead by example and not to be hypocritical.
