Cameron Diaz’s new “clean” white wine Avaline, which retails at around £14 per bottle, has earned a “D-rating” in a new survey of nearly 400 households.
Diaz’s wine was voted least favourite of “celebrity white wines,” while wine from musicians Sting and Dave Matthews tied in first place as the most popular, according to the New York Post which covered the survey and tasting in full.
The results came after drinks book author Mark Oldman hosted a virtual “Celebrity White Wine Showdown” tasting survey to determine which celebrity’s wine was the best.
“Almost everyone (88%) agreed that celebrities should not call themselves winemakers — that is a title best left to trained professionals,” said Oldman.
The survey, which Oldman conducted on Zoom with 386 households on 18 August, schooled participants how to evaluate white wine before presenting the contenders.
A-lister’s under scrutiny for their much-hyped wines included: Cameron Diaz, Dave Matthews, Zac Brown, Lisa Vanderpump and Sting and Trudie Styler with each of their wines gaining an A, B, C or D rating based on the survey.
Dave Matthew’s The Dreaming Tree Chardonnay 2018 tied in first place with Sting and Trudie Styler’s Il Palagio Roxanne Toscana Bianco 2018. Next came Lisa Vanderpump’s eponymous Vanderpump Chardonnay 2018 followed by Zac Brown’s release – Z. Alexander Brown Uncaged Chardonnay 2017. Cameron Diaz’s Avaline White Blend failed to impress households with the lowest rating and only 14% of the votes and trailing in last place.
All attendees participating in the Zoom survey, purportedly bought each of the wines in advance of the tasting.
Oldman’s white wine competition follows his “Celebrity Rosé Deathmatch,” which voted Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Château Miraval as the top “celebrity” rosé.
Rock star Sting and film producer Trudie Styler were almost tempted into buying Château Miraval in Provence in the 1980s, before Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie snapped it up.
