Clackamas County made notable progress in counting primary ballots on Saturday, after an unexpectedly high number of elections workers and volunteers showed up to help tally ballots.
Earlier in the week, elections officials only anticipated 41 people would pitch in on Saturday to hand-duplicate voters’ choices onto new ballots, a process necessitated by a massive printing error that meant most ballots could not be tabulated by vote counting machines.
But 148 people ultimately pitched in on Saturday to help with the vote count in Oregon’s third-most-populous county, for the election that took place 12 days ago. By Saturday night, Clackamas County had tallied 85% of the more than 116,000 ballots cast, according to a county update. The county processed 9,242 ballots on Saturday.
Clackamas County voters’ May 17 primary ballot choices included party nominations for governor, Congress and the Legislature, as well as two seats on the Clackamas County Commission and judicial races.
