After finally beating the Oregon record in the 100-meter dash in June, Lake Oswego’s Mia Brahe-Pedersen has set the tone for her junior year with a stellar performance at the Arcadia Invitational in California.
On Saturday, the Lake Oswego junior finished the race in 11.17 seconds. This beats her former record, which was 11.25 seconds, from the USA Track & Field U20 National Championships in June.
Brahe-Pedersen had spent the previous two years trying to catch the old Oregon record of 11.30, which was set by Churchill’s Margaret Johnson-Bailes in 1968.
It’s also far from the only history that Brahe-Pedersen has made in recent months. In February, she set an indoor national record in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 22.89 at the Don Kirby Invitational in New Mexico. She also holds the state record for the outdoor 200-meter dash with a time of 22.95.
As a sophomore, Brahe-Pedersen won state gold in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, the 4×100-meter relay and the 4×400-meter relay and helped the Lakers bring home the Class 6A team state championship.
