Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said he and other city leaders may pivot from providing tents to sleeping pods at the first city-designated mass homeless encampment, a decision that could pave a way for the project to secure state funding.
Wheeler made the disclosure Tuesday at a virtual town hall with residents living near the site of the future city-run camp, which is slated to open later this year in the Central Eastside near Powell Boulevard and Southeast 13th Avenue.
