From starting journalism early this year to where I am now, I have learned so much not only about writing but also about myself.
I have only been here for four days, but this short amount of time has given me an opportunity to not only show my skills but to sharpen them to a whole new point. None of my skills could be improved without this team I have around me.
The other student journalists and RAs at this camp have really made it a positive experience for me. From sharing their advice and wisdom, to the enjoyable bonding moments like game and movie night, we have built a strong bond as a team. Without them, I don’t think I could have built up my confidence the way I have. Now I feel like I am continuing to grow as a writer.
Also, to all of the amazing editors I have been very fortunate to work with, they are all super friendly and have clear care. They want to help us improve our craft and help bring the best parts of ourselves out in our writing.
My editor, Nik, has shown me how to fix my writing in ways I could not even imagine. What I personally enjoy most is that even though you have an editor assigned to you, it doesn’t limit who you can ask for advice. All of the editors have been open and willing to help me even if I’m not technically their “mentee.” They still care and want to help every single student develop our writing skills as journalists.
Overall between the student journalists, the RAs, and the editors, I am very thankful for every single one of them. Every interaction I have had has been nothing but positive. I will forever be grateful for and will always cherish this week I had with this amazing group of people around me.
