Game of Thrones may have ended in 2019, but with the upcoming release of its prequel House of the Dragons slated to hit HBO next year, you’ve got something to drink to.
Warner Bros. Consumer Partners have teamed up with Danish brand Mikkeller for three new GoT-inspired brews slated to launch globally on Friday 15 October.
Night King Double IPA, Ghost Visions Lager, and Castle Black Stout, as fans will be well aware, are all based on characters and places central to the show’s fantasy universe. And with winter on the way, what tipple could be more timely?
The first of the trio, a tribute to the leader of the Night Walkers, is a fruity IPA coming in at 8% ABV. Anyone who has been a fan from the start will remember the direwolf raised by Jon Snow, for which the 4.5% ABV Ghost Visions Lager was the inspiration. And at a whopping 11.3% ABV, the Castle Black Stout, a reference to the bastion of the Night’s Watch, certainly does pack a punch.
These Game of Thrones inspired brews are designed to “celebrate and pay tribute to the snow-capped North … based on the common theme ‘Winter is Here’,” according to Mikkel Bjergsø, Mikkeller’s founder and creative director, as quoted in Food & Wine.
The launch comes after it was revealed yesterday that the forthcoming Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen (MBCC) was hit by several withdrawals in recent days after several ex-employees at Mikkeller alleged sexual harassment and gender bullying.
In a statement posted to Instagram, Mikkeller revealed that it had become aware of a social media post that called out the firm for apparently failing to address the allegations and the subsequent decision of a number of breweries to withdraw from the MBCC later this month.
