Surveys are everywhere these days, but a survey conducted by the grocery delivery service Instacart had the hosts of the “Today” show Third Hour reacting to “uniquely popular grilling meats” around the country. In the Monday, July 4 segment, hosts Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dryer got into the holiday spirit by sharing the results of the Instacart survey.
The survey supposedly revealed “uniquely popular grilling meats” in states around the country for the week leading up July 4, as reported by Instacart. Among the favorites were such familiar items as hot dogs, ground beef, and pork ribs.
But out of all that meaty goodness, the Oregon and Washington “uniquely popular” favorite was vegetarian sausage, a choice which didn’t show up in any of the other states.
Roker, in particular, seemed amazed by that plant-based result. “Washington state and Oregon, what’s wrong with you people?” he said. “Vegetarian sausage? Why bother?’
The Northwest wasn’t alone in showing an apparent liking for vegetarian food. Roker also pointed out that Utah’s “uniquely popular grilling meat” choice was vegetarian chicken substitute. The map also showed that vegetarian burgers were popular in Washington, D.C.
