The Dallas Mavericks have made an undisclosed offer to Portland Trail Blazers restricted free agent guard Matisse Thybulle, an NBA source has confirmed to The Oregonian/OregonLive.
Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report first reported the news.
The Blazers made Thybulle a restricted free agent last week by extending him a qualifying offer worth around $6.3 million.
According to a source, Thybulle is expected to sign the offer sheet and is excited about the opportunity to play in Dallas.
The Blazers, however, have the right to match any offer extended to Thybulle, who made $4.4 million last season.
The Blazers could also decide to work out a sign-and-trade that sends Thybulle to Dallas for compensation.
Losing Thybulle would come on the heels of Damian Lillard requesting a trade to Miami on Saturday. Lillard and Thybulle share the same agent, Aaron Goodwin.
Even though Lillard is attempting to force his way to the Heat, the Blazers don’t plan to fall into a full rebuild, according to a source.
Keeping Thybulle, along with reaching an agreement with Jerami Grant on a new contract last weekend, would help fortify the Blazers’ efforts to remain competitive next season without Lillard.
Thybulle, acquired from Philadelphia at the trade deadline last season, is the Blazers’ best perimeter defender.
