If you’ve ever wondered how many novel ideas you can encapsulate in one phallic bottle, you may well be about to find out. That’s because you can now buy a sparkling rosé wine sold in a penis-shaped bottle, proving once and for all that the answer to ‘why?’ is all-too-often, ‘why not?’
Just the Tipsy is the name, and sparkling rosé is the game. The aim? Hen and bachelorette parties. I’ll stop writing like this now.
You may well be wondering how a penis-shaped bottle emerged, triumphant and resplendent, onto the wine scene. Well the genesis of the idea came from the intended target market.
As CEO Matthew Shore explained on the company’s website:
“[We] were a couple of dads at a park, watching our kids on the playground, talking about the ridiculous number of bachelorette parties our wives had attended, and the incredible amount of penis tattoos, penis cups, penis straws, penis everything that was involved. That’s when the words that would change our lives were spoken: “What if the champagne bottles were shaped like a penis??”
CHAMPENIS™ (our nickname) was erected from those simple words!”
As origin stories go, it’s certainly a memorable one.
Per SFGate.com, Shore was surprised at just how many Napa wineries were open to the proposition. “We definitely had plenty of ‘Are you serious? Is this a joke?’ reactions, but then as we explained what we were going for, it’s all been really positive,” he said. “People like the idea, they find it funny. … We’ve definitely had a few folks say it’s not for them and they don’t want to be involved in any part of the process, but less often that’s the reaction.”
A tasting note on the website describes the wine as “smooth, crisp and inviting with a long finish”.
As for the design of the bottles, the process was, Shore assures, *ahem* rigorous.
“I can neither confirm nor deny who the model(s) may have been, but we made sure to go through many rounds of design to make sure it came out perfect.” He revealed.
