Micah Williams’ personal-best 100-meter time of 9.86 seconds highlighted the Oregon Ducks track & field team’s performance this past week at the NCAA West Preliminary meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The meet serves as a qualifier for the NCAA track & field championships, scheduled for June 8-11 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Williams, who prepped at Portland’s Benson High School, blew away the rest of the field in Fayetteville. His 9.86 ties him for the second-fastest collegiate time on record and ranks tied for No. 2 on the world list this year.
Williams leads a total of nine entries among the UO men for the NCAA meet, while the UO women will have 14 entries at the NCAAs.
Notable UO athletes who missed out on qualifying for the NCAA meet are Reed Brown (men’s 1,500), Alessia Zarbo (women’s 10,000) and Aneta Konieczek (women’s steeplechase). Also, long jumper Alysah Hickey did not compete at the West Preliminary meet.
