COLLEGE FOOTBALL, USA — If you ranked the 10 most important regular-season games of the 2021 college football season in terms of their affect on the playoff race, that list might looking something like this. The winners of these matchups are listed first.
1. Georgia-Clemson, Sept. 4
2. Michigan-Ohio State, Nov. 27
3. Cincinnati-Notre Dame, Oct. 2
4. Alabama-Auburn, Nov. 27
5. Oregon-Ohio State, Sept. 11
6. Baylor-Oklahoma, Nov. 13
7. Oklahoma State-Oklahoma, Nov. 27
8. Utah-Oregon, Nov. 20
9. Alabama-Ole Miss, Oct. 2
10. North Carolina State-Clemson, Sept. 25
These games knocked teams like Ohio State, Oklahoma and Clemson out of the playoff. These games also put teams like Georgia, Cincinnati and Michigan in the playoff. And Alabama’s four-OT win over Auburn kept the Crimson Tide alive and allowed Alabama to win its way into the playoff in the SEC Championship Game.
