NORTH PLAINS — With AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” blaring through speakers, a performer wearing what appeared to be a Payne Stewart-inspired ensemble — yellow flat cap and yellow knickers tucked into knee-high socks — juggled bowling pins. A few moments later, a skydiver pulling a massive LIV Golf flag parachuted onto the 10th fairway.
A pitching wedge away, Greg Norman, the godfather of the whole scene, stood on the first tee box, chatting nonchalantly with four-time major champion Brooks Koepka. The former No. 1 player in the world, just a few moments away from teeing off for the first time as a member of the new LIV Golf Invitational Series, flashed a rare smile.
