Betsy Johnson’s flippant alliteration of “roaches” for “roses” in reference to the city of Portland belies her stance of uniting Oregonians and finding middle ground, (“Governor candidate Betsy Johnson calls Portland ‘city of roaches,’” June 29). As dysfunctional as the city is currently, Johnson stated truthfully at TedX that Portland is critical to the state as a whole. Her recent soundbite will haunt governors’ efforts to lure corporations and encourage tourism for years. The negative effect on the city’s and state’s economy is significant.
