LAS VEGAS – Portland Trail Blazers summer league head coach Steve Hetzel said Friday that the team was awaiting the results of an MRI on rookie Shaedon Sharpe’s shoulder, which he injured Thursday night.
Sharpe played just over five minutes during the team’s 81-78 loss to Detroit at the Thomas & Mack Center before injuring his shoulder in the first quarter of the first summer league game for both teams.
Hetzel remained positive about Sharpe’s injury stating that the guard out of Kentucky said he felt fine at halftime and again after the game. But the Blazers chose to remain cautious with their No. 7-overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft.
Should the shoulder check out, however, Hetzel said he would expect Sharpe to return to action Saturday against New Orleans.
“If the structure is fine and he feels good, if he’s ready to play, we’re not going to hold him back,” Hetzel said.
Sharpe went 1 of 3 from the field for two points before injuring his shoulder.
