A pedestrian and two dogs were killed early Saturday morning in a Southeast Portland hit-and-run crash, police said.
Portland police officers responded to reports of a crash at Southeast Holgate Boulevard and Southeast 100th Avenue a little after 7 a.m. Police said they found a crash that involved two vehicles and a pedestrian who was walking dogs.
The pedestrian died at the scene. They were walking two dogs when the crash happened, said Sgt. Kevin Allen, a Portland Police spokesperson. Both dogs were hit and died at the scene, Allen said. Police have not released the identity of the victim.
Police said the driver of one of the vehicles ran away. As of Saturday afternoon, police said they have not found them. The driver of the other vehicle had minor injuries, according to police.
The Major Crash Teams is investigating the collision. Police closed Southeast Holgate Boulevard between Southeast 96th Avenue and Southeast 104th Avenue during the investigation. The closure has been lifted, police said.
Police have not said what led up to the collision. No one has been charged as of Saturday afternoon, Allen said.
“We are asking that if anyone has video surveillance or other potential evidence from this area (especially the crash or the suspect running off), then we’d like to hear from them,” Allen said in a message to The Oregonian/OregonLive.
Pedestrian deaths have continued to rise in the first six months of 2022 compared to 2021. Last month, two Portland pedestrians died in crashes within 24 hours of each other along Northeast Glisan Street and Southeast 82nd Avenue.
