The World Athletics Championships’ women’s heptathlon, a series of seven track and field events, began Sunday with the 100 meters hurdles.
Michelle Atherley of the United States took the early lead with a time of 13.12 seconds in the second heat, earning 1106 points in the process. Three other members of Team USA, Anna Hall, Ashtin Zamzow Mahler and Kendell Williams, are also in the field.
Hall is currently in third place with 1094 points, Zamzow-Mahler is in 10th with 1055 and Williams is currently in 12th with 1044.
The next event of the heptathlon, the high jump, is scheduled for 11:35 a.m.
