Three members of Team USA, led by Michael Norman, qualified for the semifinals of the 400 meters during heats on Sunday.
Norman’s time of 45.37 seconds led the second heat. A member of the gold medal-winning 4×400 relay team at the Tokyo Olympics, Norman will now seek to add to his list of accolades in the semifinals.
Like Norman, Champion Allison won the fourth heat with a time of 45.56. A burst of speed down the final stretch of the race allowed Allison to take first for his own in the closing seconds. Michael Cherry similarly took first place in the third heat with a time of 45.81.
The semifinals of the men’s 400 meters are scheduled for Wednesday evening.
