The United States’ men’s 4×100 meters relay team set a new world-leading time of 37.87 seconds to qualify for the finals during heats at the World Athletics Championships on Friday. The USA led all qualifiers across both heats.
Christian Coleman, a former 100 meters world champion, led off in the first leg of the relay with a time of 10.31. Noah Lyles, who broke the American record in the 200 meters en route to a gold medal yesterday, ran the second leg of the race in 9.26.
His time was equaled in the third leg by Elijah Hall, who handed the baton to Marvin Bracy for the final stretch. Bracy surged past his competition with a time of 9.04, cheered on by the home crowd at Hayward Field.
The finals of the men’s 4×100 relay are scheduled for Saturday evening.
