The World Athletics Championships’ men’s decathlon, a competition consisting of 10 events, began Saturday morning with the 100 meters.
Damian Warner, competing for Canada, led the field with a time of 10.27 seconds, earning 1,030 points for an early lead in the decathlon. Warner, who won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, is currently ranked No. 1 in the world in the decathlon, according to World Athletics’ website.
In second place is another Canadian, Pierre LePage, who ran a time of 10.39 for 1001 points. Two members of Team USA, Zach Ziemek and Kyle Garland, are currently in the top ten. Ziemek is in fifth place after a time of 10.57 and 959 points while Garland is in seventh place thanks to a time of 10.69 and 931 points.
The next event in the decathlon, the long jump, is scheduled for 10:10 a.m.
