With her third and final jump of the qualifying round, Team USA’s Quanesha Burks led the field headed to the finals with a distance of 22 feet, 6¼ inches, her best jump of the season. Two out of a possible three athletes representing the United States will move onto the finals.
Burks was one of six athletes to hit or exceed the automatic qualifying mark of 22-1¾ and was the only member of Team USA to do so. She will be joined in the finals by teammate Tiffany Flynn who, with a distance of 22-1, was among the 12 best performers in the qualifying round.
Jasmine Moore just missed out on a top-12 finish with a distance of 21-8, less than two inches shorter than the last qualifier, Leticia Oro Melo of Brazil with a distance of 21-9½.
The finals of the women’s long jump are scheduled for Sunday evening.
