It seems that the Biden administration passed legislation to build vitally needed chip factories in America, and will require contractors who build the factories to offer childcare to their workers, (“GOP concerned about semiconductor subsidies,” March 3). The vitriol of the GOP attack on the childcare requirement is ominous, as they say this will poison any sense of ongoing trust and will make it harder for Biden to ever get legislation passed again.
Quality childcare helps parent hold a job and it improves a child’s social and cognitive development. UNICEF has rated 41 countries on childcare policy and the U.S. is number 40, just ahead of Slovakia. The GOP position on childcare makes a clear statement about how the Republican Party feels about working men and women and their children.
