This week’s editorial cartoon gallery is dominated by Fox News opinion host Tucker Carlson’s edit of footage from of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol that downplays it as “mostly peaceful.”
Bill Bramhall leads the gallery with a drawing of an upside-down Carlson saying, “Down is up.” Other cartoonists see Carlson as letting a Speaker Kevin McCarthy genie out of a bottle (David Horsey); a calendar missing the date Jan. 6, 2021 (Walt Handelsman); Carlson’s view of the war in Ukraine as a tourist visit by Russians (Mike Luckovich); Fox News Chairman Rupert Murdoch with his Frankenstein creation; and Carlson hauling a load of manure and cropping out video of rioters scaling the walls of the Capitol (Steve Breen).
In other news, former President Donald Trump was invited to testify before a New York City grand jury over the Stormy Daniels case. Scott Stantis draws Trump running while trailing a skein of toilet paper. Luckovich has him exercising his presidential duties from prison.
Editorial cartoonists also addressed congressional hearings on the origins of the Covid-19 virus; President Joe Biden’s proposed budget, raising taxes on the wealthy, as an Oscar-worthy slap in the face of Uncle Sam; state legislative efforts to ban drag shows; Norfolk Southern Railway’s safety problems; and the ethics probe into whether Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Met Gala dress was an improper gift.
Cartoons were drawn by Nick Anderson, Bill Bramhall, Dana Summers, Drew Sheneman, Scott Stantis, Walt Handelsman, David Horsey, Joel Pett and Joey Weatherford of Tribune Content Agency; and Steve Breen, Mike Luckovich and Michael Ramirez of Creators Syndicate.
