A Massachusetts-based food and soup manufacturer will be laying off nearly 200 workers as it prepares to shut down its Northeast Portland production facility.
Blount Fine Foods opened the facility at 17711 N.E. Riverside Parkway in the second half of 2020, The Shelby Report, a food and grocery industry publication, reported. The company plans to stop production at the 80,000-square-foot facility by May 12.
The facility’s closure means that 198 workers will lose their jobs, according to a notice sent to state and local officials.The employees, who are not represented by a union, were notified of the layoff on Monday.
According to the company’s website, Blount produces soups, entrees and side dishes for retail hot bars and restaurants. It also produced a full line of soups sold to club stores and retailers nationwide under the Legal Sea Food and Panera at Home brands.
