A man and a women are dead after a shooting early Wednesday morning at the Embassy Suites hotel near Portland International Airport, the Port of Portland police said.
The shooting occurred at about 2 a.m., police said. The Port of Portland said the victims’ identities can’t be confirmed at this time.
Police say there is no ongoing threat to the airport or surrounding area. Officials have not said whether anyone is in custody. The East County Major Crimes Team — which has members from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Gresham Police Department, Oregon State Police, Port of Portland Police Department and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office — is investigating.
An 18-year-old man, Parnell Badon Jr., was shot to death at the same hotel, at 7900 N.E. 82nd Avenue, last November.
Damariae Reginald Haqq, 20, of Vancouver, was arrested and accused of second-degree murder in Badon’s killing. He pleaded not guilty and is slated to go to trial in December. Police said last month they anticipated making more arrests in connection with Badon’s murder.
Police ask anyone with information about the Wednesday-morning shooting at the hotel to contact the East County Major Crimes Team’s lead detective, Jenn Ritschard, through the tip line: 503-926-1506.
