Oregon State’s Trey Munoz clinched All-America honors at the NCAA wrestling championships on Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Competing in the 184-pound class, the fourth-seeded Munoz advanced to the semifinals before falling 5-1 to No. 1 seed Parker Keckeisen of Northern Iowa.
Munoz now has a chance at either third or fifth place on Saturday morning at BOK Center, starting with a match against Ohio State’s Kaleb Romero.
Of the seven Beavers wrestlers who had advanced to the NCAA championships, Munoz is the only one still competing.
Tanner Harvey (197) bounced back in the consolation bracket after dropping his opening bout Thursday. Harvey beat West Virginia’s Austin Cooley and then North Dakota State’s Owen Pentz before falling 10-5 to Max Dean of Penn State.
Mateo Olmos (174) won his opener, lost in the second round and then won one match in the consolation bracket before being eliminated by South Dakota State’s Cade DeVos.
Brandon Kaylor (125) and Matthew Olguin (165) each lost their opening matches and then won one consolation bout before bowing out. Jason Shaner (133) and Cleveland Belton (141) each dropped their openers and consolation matches.
