The Portland Winterhawks won the first two games of the series in Portland. Friday they won a 50-50 game by a 4-3, on the strength of special teams. Game 2 they won pretty comprehensively, shutting out the Silvertips 4-0. They’re in the drivers’ set for the moment, as they not only lead the series, but clearly look like the deeper team in a series that ends with 4 games in 5 days.

Marcus Nguyen has been the top player in the series with 4 goals in 2 games. You wouldn’t have expected shutting him down to be the key for the Silvertips, but here we are.
Nguyen has a 4-game point streak. Fromm-Delorme’s is at 8 games.
Leading forwards: Klassen (70 points/66 games), Fromm-Delorme (70/67), Stefan (66/66), O’Brien (62/68), Nguyen (50/68).

The big story for the Silvertips is how many minutes their top players are playing. What effect will it have by the end of the series?
That said, if they can pull this one out at home, they’ll be rested for Game 4 on Friday, so there’s a good path toward getting the series tied 2-2.
