The Story Behind The Cynar Julep
For a spin on the Mint Julep, try replacing the bourbon with Cynar and accenting it with grapefruit. A bright first sip gives way to a gentle, vegetal spice from the Cynar. The mint grounds the tang of the citrus, and the herbal notes nod to tea but with added depth and an undeniable sweetness. A sprig or so of mint should be plenty, but feel free to muddle more if it suits your fancy. Soda water lengthens the drink, and a couple of dashes of bitters perfectly balance the flavors; enjoy this cool concoction in a rocks glass under the sun or tall glass for an extended serve.
