Oregon men’s basketball assistant coach Armon Gates is heading to Oklahoma.
Gates, who came to UO in August from Nebraska, has accepted an assistant coach position on Porter Moser’s staff at OU, a source confirmed to The Oregonian/OregonLive.
He previously worked for Moser at Loyola Chicago.
It’ll be the third offseason in a row that Dana Altman will have to fill a position among the three full-time assistants on his staff. Longtime assistant Tony Stubblefield left in 2021 to become the head coach at DePaul and assistant Chris Crutchfield left after one year to become the head coach at Omaha.
Jon Rothstein first reported the move for Gates, who earned $325,000 this season and was due $350,000 next season. His $25,000 signing bonus in lieu of relocation expense reimbursement is owed back because he is leaving before June 30.
