I was pleased to read in The Oregonian/OregonLive that Portland police are having more success in finding stolen cars and prosecuting offenders, (“Portland, Multnomah County plan aggressive crackdown on out-of-control car and retail theft,” April 25). It was disturbing to see that car thieves can learn to start and steal cars without an ignition key using lessons on the internet, (“Oregon, 16 other states seek federal recall of Kia, Hyundai vehicles for being too easy to steal,” April 20). The wonderful internet also serves to help people locate illegal drugs, plan insurrections, promote pornography and help sexual predators locate their young prey. The internet enables hundreds of scam artists to take people’s money and destroy their good names. I could go on and on. Does anyone think that there should be way to stop some of this? It may be a way to reduce our crime rate.
