Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard and his agent met with general manager Joe Cronin Monday to discuss the franchise’s plans, sources have confirmed to The Oregonian/OregonLive.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports first reported the news.
The relationship between Lillard and the franchise, according to sources, remains on solid ground but the team’s inability to flip the No. 3 pick in Thursday’s NBA draft into a veteran star didn’t sit well with the franchise point guard.
The Blazers could still make key additions during free agency, which begins Friday. Also, the Blazers still have assets they could trade to acquire a star.
However, the No. 3 pick was a huge trade chip that the franchise had originally planned to trade. But Cronin said that offers from other teams were not good enough to convince him to not select point guard Scoot Henderson (G League Ignite).
The Blazers also used the No. 23 pick to select Iowa forward Kris Murray rather than trade the pick.
