A court security officer fired two shots at a man at close range outside the Pioneer Courthouse early Monday after the man had pushed his way inside, punched the officer in the head and held him by his throat, and continued to fight with him outside, striking the officer in the head with his handheld radio, according to court records.
Jett Avery Thomas, 39, of Portland, faces federal allegations of assaulting a federal employee with a dangerous weapon. He remains hospitalized and will make his first appearance in federal court at a later date, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
