It’s time to sign HB 2426, Governor Kotek, (“What you need to know about Oregon’s new self-serve gas law,” June 29).
My local gas attendants are awesome. They’re friendly, they work hard and they’re always on the run. They’re on the run because the stations are continually understaffed and unable to find people to fill those roles. Roles that have been vacant for months and years.
The bill on your desk will not cause job loss. It won’t lower revenues for Oregon. It allows people who want to pump their own gas to do so, and allows attendants to focus on a smaller customer base and provide their great service for those who want it.
It’s time for you to step up, governor, and sign this bill into law. It’s a win/win for the workforce, businesses and Oregonians. Help these understaffed attendants out and let the rest of us choose whether or not we want to pump our own gas.
Jon Edwards, Tigard
