Jackson Family Wines has launched a 10-year sustainability and climate action plan with a series of virtual masterclasses engaging the wine sector in the discussions.
The plan, named ‘Rooted for Good: Roadmap to 2030 initiative’ is part of the wine company’s ‘decade of action’ to establish eco-conscious sustainability goals and tackle the ongoing climate crisis.
Rooted for Good is a 10-year plan that will see Jackson Family Wines address areas including: greenhouse gas emissions reductions, water management and land conservation through regenerative farming practices.
The plan will also address the company’s social responsibility to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and wine community.
Jackson Family Wines publicised the initiative by hosting a virtual press conference which described the programme and its importance to the company, its employees, and the broader wine industry.
The wine company also has plans to launch a five-part virtual masterclass series, entitled Rooted for Good: Fostering a Sustainable Future for the Wine Industry, which it hopes will create a dialogue among the global wine community about the role the sector can play in finding climate action solutions.
The masterclass series and ongoing discussions will be moderated by 2020 Wine Communicator of the Year Elaine Chukan Brown. Each discussion will see a panel of global experts, scientists, international leaders, and wine industry innovators exploring topics such as carbon and climate action, water management, regenerative farming and soil health, social responsibility and diversity, and their role in wine quality.
Speaking about the initiative during the virtual press conference, Jackson Family Wines CEO Rick Tigner said: “Everyone is concerned about the environment. There’s a need for social change. We are calling it the decade of action. There are a lot of activities we are going to make happen to ensure that it sees a lot of success.”
Tigner added: “Our future will be greater than our past. I’m looking forward to seeing the next generation take over this operation and really bring other wineries to the table. Taking responsibility to build a better future is one of our values and the Jackson Family is committed to doing the right thing.”
