A police investigation has been launched in Scotland after thieves stole some £280,000 worth of WKD Blue from a business park last weekend.
Police Scotland revealed that the break in occurred at Caledonian Bottlers, Cumnock Business Park, Cumnock. The incident took place on Saturday 18 September, and three HGV-style vehicles arrived at the premises in the early hours of the following morning.
The robbers made off with “a quantity of pallets” that contained bottles of WKD Blue worth a quite staggering £280,000.
A statement from police Scotland regarding the incident reads:
“The break-in occurred during the evening of Saturday, 18 September, 2021 at Caledonian Bottlers, Cumnock Business Park, Cumnock.
“It is then believed that three HGV tractor/trailer units attended the premises in the early hours of Monday, 20 September and stole a quantity of pallets containing ‘Blue WKD’ alcohol, valued at around £280,000.
“Around 11.45 pm on Monday, 20 September one of the tractor units containing a quantity of pallets of ‘Blue WKD’ alcohol was discovered on fire on the A76 between Mennock and Enterkinfoot, Dumfriesshire.”
Officers are appealing to the public for further information.
Kilmarnock Police Detective Constable Hugh Dempster added:
“I would like to speak to anyone who has any information on the actual break-in at Caledonian Bottlers or anyone who may have seen a convoy of three HGV vehicles leaving the premises.
“I’d also ask any drivers who were travelling on the A76 towards Mennock, late on Monday evening, to check their dashcam footage as they may have captured one or more of the stolen vehicles.
“Anyone who is offered ‘Blue WKD’ alcohol at a much-discounted price is also asked to contact police immediately as this may be the stolen alcohol.”
