Tennessee straight whiskey Daddy Rack has achieved nationwide presence in the UK through Waitrose, the first ‘Double Mellowed’ spirit to be offered by the retailer.
Daddy Rack is created by J. Arthur Rackham, aka Daddy Rack himself, an Englishman who started his career in Cognac before moving into the whiskey market.
The spirit is made using a double mellow process, filtered twice through maple charcoal. Its process conforms to the rules of Bourbon production, meaning it needs to be made with a minimum of 51% corn. However, unlike Bourbon, which can be made in any State, Tennessee Whiskey can only be made within Tennessee, ensuring the process follows strict production and quality standards.
Tennessee straight whiskey must be made using the Lincoln County Process where the whiskey is filtered through a dense layer of maple charcoal after distillation. Daddy Rack is double mellowed, meaning that, unlike most tennessee whiskeys, this filtration process is repeated a second time.
Daddy Rack is a Straight Whiskey, meaning no colouring or flavouring is added, and it is made from locally farmed high grade 1 corn.
The spirit’s makers have recommended a series of serves which compliment the whiskey best:
Tennessee Whiskey Sour: 60ml Daddy Rack Tennessee Straight Whiskey, 40ml Fresh Lemon Juice, 20ml Sugar Syrup. Shake with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish and serve with a cherry. Orange slice optional.
The Rackhouse Lemonade: 45ml of Daddy Rack, 10ml Crème de Pêche, 15m lemon juice, and 90ml of lemon-lime soda. Pour all ingredients into an ice-filled Collins glass. Stir and garnish with a slice or twist of lemon.
Popcorn Old Fashioned: 60ml Daddy Rack, 15ml MONIN Popcorn Syrup, 2 dash Angostura Bitters. Add all ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice cubes, stir until chilled and strain into an Old-Fashioned glass, filled with ice, and garnish with an orange zest.
The Hot & Buttered: 60ml Daddy Rack, 15ml MONIN Ginger Bread syrup, 30ml melted Butter, 90ml water. Add butter and MONIN into a saucepan, stirring until the butter has melted. Add water, then Daddy Rack and pour into a latte glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and grated nutmeg.
