American Curtis Thompson finished eighth overall in two rounds of qualifying Thursday night at Hayward Field in Eugene and will move through to the final of the men’s javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships.
Thompson, competing in Group A of the competition, produced a best throw of 268 feet, 1 inch (81.71m).
Grenada’s Anderson Peters led all qualifiers with a throw of 294-9 (89.83m). India’s Neeraj Chopra was second at 289-9 (88.31m) and Germany’s Julian Weber third at 286-3 (87.24m).
The final is scheduled for Saturday.
