A few dozen cyclists gathered in Northeast Portland on a chilly Friday evening to ride a 5.3-mile loop through the city for the Black History Bike Ride. Participants started at Lloyd Center with speakers and then pedaled their way to the Keaton Otis Memorial Art Project, AfroVillage headquarters, the Burnside Bridge and the Golden West Hotel.
According to event organizers, the ride was “designed for Black Portlanders and Black/African immigrants and refugees to experience the joy of riding bikes with kinfolk.”
Biketown provided e-bikes, Legacy Health gave away helmets and Metro supplied bike lights.
The event was organized by Multnomah County’s Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program.
