Grant Fisher and Mohammed Ahmed of Bowerman Track Club, running in separate heats, qualified for the men’s 5,000 meters final during Thursday’s heats at the World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Ahmed, competing for Canada, took fifth place in the second heat with a time of 13 minutes, 15.17 seconds. Fisher, the fourth-place finisher for the United States this past weekend in the 10,000 meters, finished in second place of the first 5,000 heat with a time of 13:24.44.
Jacob Krop of Kenya, running in the second heat, led all qualifiers with a time of 13:13.30.
Woody Kincaid, another BTC athlete and former University of Portland runner, suffered a fall during the second heat, with track burn visible on his back and shoulder for the remainder of the race. He finished with a time of 13:25.02 and didn’t qualify.
The final of the men’s 5,000 meters is scheduled for Sunday evening.
