Britney Spears has been embroiled in a battle to end the conservatorship held by her father for 13 years. After a judge finally ruled to terminate the legal arrangement, the legendary pop singer revealed she had celebrated in the best way possible: with her first glass of Champagne.
“I think I’m gonna cry,” Spears told her 35 million Instagram followers, as the news came out that her battle to end the 13-year conservatorship held by her father was finally at an end.
Britney Spears’ fans have long been campaigning for her to be freed from the legal agreement, a decision that would lead her to regain autonomy over her finances and career. Indeed, many gathered outside the court to support the singer and await the judge’s decision.
Her father, Jamie, had previously asserted that the conservatorship was “necessary”, though agreed that it was time for the singer to regain control of her life.
And in an update to her followers, Britney took to her Instagram to share how she was celebrating the news. She wrote:
“What an amazing weekend … I felt like I was on cloud 9 the whole time ☁️ !!! I actually got my first glass of champagne 🥂 at the most beautiful restaurant I’ve ever seen last night !!!! I’m celebrating my freedom and my B day for the next two months !!!!!!!!!!! I mean after 13 years … I think I’ve waited long ENOUGH !!!! I’m so happy my lawyer Mathew Rosengart came into my life when he did … he has truly turned my life around … I’m forever thankful for that !!!! What a sight seeing so many people celebrating my victory …. I love my fans so much … so thank you 🌹 !!!!”
Spears’ lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, previously acknowledged the role that the #FreeBritney movement had played in the ending of the conservatorship.
“I think the support of the #FreeBritney movement has been instrumental.
“To the extent that it allowed my firm to carry the ball across the finish line, I thank them as well,” he said.
