Police on Tuesday arrested a convicted murderer on suspicion of killing an unidentified pedestrian in a crash Monday in Southeast Portland.
Investigators arrested Portland resident Frederick D. Moore, 40, on allegations of second-degree murder and hit-and-run in the fatal crash on Southeast 82nd Avenue near Center Street.
The pedestrian died at the scene about 9 p.m. Monday. A spokesperson for the Portland Police Bureau declined to release further information about the crash or the arrest.
Moore was convicted in 1998 of second-degree murder and first-degree robbery after he and three other teenagers killed Anthony Genzale in South Everett, Washington, during a stick-up that netted $60 and a gun, according to The Seattle Times.
Moore, who was 16 at the time, received a sentence of 17 years after testifying against a ringleader and explaining he didn’t pull the trigger, the newspaper reported.
In 2020, Moore was sentenced to 90 days in jail in Portland for breaking into a stranger’s East Burnside home and trashing it, court records show.
Moore is being held in Multnomah County’s downtown jail and is set to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon.
The killing is the 40th homicide in Portland so far this year.
