Damian Lillard took to Instagram Live Saturday and began responding to comments by viewers leading to a humorous moment involving the Los Angeles Lakers.
Someone asked the Portland Trail Blazers star guard where he was going this summer?
Lillard chuckled, repeated the question and then said: “They want me to be like, ‘I’m going to the Lakers.’”
He continued to laugh along with someone else then said, “I’m going to the Lakers, bruh. I’m going to the Lakers. I’m going to the Lakers.”
Lillard was clearly joking, but that didn’t stop his comments from being scooped up, edited into a small clip and posted on social media. To be fair, many appeared to get that Lillard was joking.
Granted, Lillard’s future with the Blazers isn’t set in stone. The franchise has made a vow to pursue veteran talent to help Lillard after a second consecutive season lead to tanking for a high draft pick.
But even if that endeavor fails and Lillard were to request a trade, it’s doubtful that the Lakers have the assets to get a deal done that would make sense for both franchises.
