The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest in last year’s fatal shooting of a 25-year-old Portland mother, an innocent victim who lost her life when someone mistakenly pulled up to their family’s car and unleashed a “hail of gunfire,” announced Kieran L. Ramsey, special agent who leads Oregon’s FBI.
The shooting occurred around 10:35 p.m. on Feb. 20, 2022. Duop, her fiancé and her two sons were in an SUV heading home to their Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood apartment from a visit to a grocery store at Southeast 128th Avenue and Foster Road.
Duop, a South Sudanese immigrant who came to the United States with her family in the early 2000s, died at the scene. Her fiancé and two young children, ages 1 and 5 at the time, were all wounded by gunshots.
“Most people can never imagine the horror of having another car pull up alongside yours and unleash a hail of gunfire on you. Adau Duop’s family lived that nightmare,” Ramsey said in a statement.
The young mother missed one son’s 2nd birthday and missed her 6-year-old son’s first day of school in the past year, according to the FBI. Duop worked two jobs as an in-home caregiver while taking classes at Mt. Hood Community College to become a nurse.
“This family deserves justice and the remorseless killers who did this deserve to be behind bars,” Ramsey said.
Duop’s killing marked one of Portland’s 101 homicides last year, making it the deadliest year in the city’s history. So far this year, there have been 25 homicides in the city. At this time last year, there were 34.
The FBI, along with Portland police, hope that the monetary reward will encourage someone to provide information to help solve Duop’s killing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI Portland Field Office at (503) 224-4181, a local FBI office, the nearest American Embassy or Consulate, or you submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
