The National Weather Service is warning residents of Union and Wallowa counties to be on the lookout for landslides and flash floods in previously burned areas until Friday morning, as severe rain and hail are expected to hit the region in the coming days.
The weather service has issued a flash flood warning for areas near the Double Creek, Nebo and Sturgill burn scars, which were left behind by wildfires in 2022. Heavy rainfall may lead to mud and debris slides, especially in narrow canyons and basins with steep terrain.
Up to half an inch of rain may fall in Union and Wallowa counties on Thursday, according to the weather service.
