The Oregon Department of Transportation will close the Historic Columbia River Highway between East Larch Mountain Road and Vista House at 7 a.m. Thursday.
Workers will be doing on repairs to damage on the roadway surface as the result of ongoing slide activity. Drivers and bicyclists will need to choose an alternate route from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, May 11.
ODOT notes it will continue to explore long-term engineering solutions to address the ongoing slide threat in the area.
The work is weather dependent and subject to change, but forecasts are calling for a clear and warm day, so expect this work to remain on schedule.
Drivers should expect delays on OR 58 west of the Willamette Pass as crews work on removing loose rock from a recent slide.
Work will begin about 7:30 a.m. Monday, May 15 and continue through 4 p.m. daily for about five days. The work zone is near milepost 53. Flaggers will direct traffic through lane closures in the work zone. Driver can expect 15–20-minute delays at times.
There may also be delays in other work zones on OR 58 this year with several projects on this important link between the southern Willamette Valley and central Oregon.
Heads up for Lewis & Clark Bridge closure later this summer: The Lewis and Clark Bridge between Rainier, Oregon and Longview, Washington will close for up to eight days beginning Sunday evening July 16. Crews will be working on bridge deck repairs.
Pedestrians, bicyclists and emergency responders will be able to cross the bridge during the closure except during a small window when the floor beam is being replaced. The closure of the only bridge across the Columbia River between Astoria and Portland may create hardships for communities along the Columbia River and require residents to make other travel arrangements.
