The stage is set for an exciting Jamaican-heavy final to the women’s 100-meter dash at the World Athletics Championships.
Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah finished the semifinals with the top mark of 10.82 seconds. In second place was Shericka Jackson, who finished in 10.84 seconds. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the third heat, finishing sixth overall, with a time of 10.93 seconds.
The United Kingdom’s Dina Asher-Smith, who posted the top time from the qualifying rounds, placed second in her semifinal heat with a time of 10.89.
Team USA’s Melissa Jefferson and Aleia Hobbs qualified for the finals with times of 10.92 and 10.95, respectively.
Former Oregon Duck Kemba Nelson, also representing Jamaica, saw her time at the worlds end on Sunday afternoon. She finished sixth in the first heat with a time of 11.25.
The finals for the women’s 100-meter dash is scheduled for Sunday night at 7:50 p.m.
