Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics have agreed to a five-year supermax contract extension worth $304 million, according to a report.
The deal is the richest in NBA history and is fully guaranteed, but there is no player option for the final year of Brown’s deal in 2028-29. The deal includes a trade kicker clause, meaning Brown’s salary increases if he is trade at any time during the life of the contract.
Brown, 26, became eligible for a supermax extension after earning All-NBA honors (second team) following the 2022-23 season.
Brown averaged a career-high 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 35.9 minutes per game during the past season. He helped Boston reach Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals (lost to the Miami Heat). Brown and the Celtics reached the NBA Finals in 2022, where they lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games.
Brown’s contract isn’t expected to be the richest in league history for very long. Teammate Jayson Tatum will be eligible for a supermax extension deal next summer. Tatum’s contract is expected to be far north of $300 million.
